Presidents & Their First Ladies, Dramatically Speaking: John Quincy and Louisa Adams

“Presidents and Their First Ladies, Dramatically Speaking” is the creation of the veteran acting and writing team of husband and wife, William and Sue Wills. After 20 years of operating their own theatrical company in the resort of Ocean City, MD, the couple is now in their 28th year of bringing to life the stories of 36 different Presidential couples. Amazingly, the Wills have appeared together on stage over 9,400 times…and still counting! They are not “impersonators," but hope that their costumes, dialects and demeanors will help recreate these historical characters.
With their “Presidents and First Ladies” program, William and Sue hope that by presenting the personal side of our first couples, they will become more than just names read about in history books.

They proudly present to us the story of our 6th President and First Lady: John Quincy and Louisa Adams.

John Quincy and Louisa (the first First Lady born outside of the United States) Adams had a difficult relationship in the first half of their marriage. So much so that Louisa once started an autobiography entitled "Autobiography of a Nobody." However, during John Quincy's Congressional years, they grew closer and became working partners, especially in regard to the question of slavery. John Quincy began his government service at the age of 14 and collapsed at his US Congressional seat at the age of 80, having been the only President to return as a Congressman.
