The Traveling Toiletries Initiative: Helping the Local Community

Born from the needs of the underserved in our local community, The Palm Beach County Library System's Traveling Toiletries Initiative seeks to bridge the gaps in personal hygienic items for those who face significant challenges in accessing basic necessities. This project relies on the community's donations to assist the underserved, underemployed and homeless populations within Palm Beach County. Currently, four branches have adopted the program, providing large and discreet donation receptacles for anyone who wishes to donate personal hygiene items. Our patrons can find these receptacles at our Main Library, opens a new window, Gardens Branch, opens a new window, Royal Palm Beach Branch, opens a new window and West Boca Branch, opens a new window

We ask that donations be travel-sized, new and unused. Items we are currently accepting are:

  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Floss
  • Feminine care items
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Personal cleansing cloths
  • Gallon-sized Ziplock bags
  • Combs
  • Tissues
  • SPF
  • Lip Balm
  • Shampoo
  • Lotion

Traveling Toiletries is a thoughtful and practical way to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. By providing personal care products, our library system hopes to alleviate a daily struggle and promote dignity and self-care for individuals who may not have access to these essential items.

"The Traveling Toiletries project is a passion project. It has always been something that I have wanted to do in my career with the Palm Beach County Library System. Through The Sunshine State Leadership Institute, I was offered an opportunity to bring this project to life. My goal for this project is to alleviate one daily basic need for the community, " -Elizabeth Griffin, Assistant Branch Manager for the Royal Palm Beach Branch Library and founder of the Traveling Toiletries Initiative.
