Palm Beach Pride ’24: Recap!

Since its inception, the Rainbow Roundtable Committee of the Palm Beach County Library System has been an integral part of the vibrant landscape of community events, notably Palm Beach Pride. Founded in 2021, the committee has not only grown in numbers but also in its impact, fostering a strong partnership with Compass, the leading LGBTQIA+ Community Center in our area. This growth and impact are a testament to the library's commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community, ensuring they feel proud and valued.

Compass, the proud host of Palm Beach Pride each March, has seen the Library emerge as a staunch supporter since we first tabled at the event in 2022. This year marked our third anniversary as an outreach partner, a profoundly rewarding milestone.

The 2024 Pride event encountered unexpected hurdles, with severe weather conditions causing significant flooding. This unfortunate turn of events forced the first day to be canceled, consolidating the festival into a single, action-packed day. However, the library staff and Compass quickly adapted, ensuring that the condensed event did not diminish the celebratory atmosphere. This resilience in the face of challenges is an inspiration to the LGBTQIA+ community and event organizers, showing them the Library's unwavering commitment.

The turnout at our Library’s table was truly remarkable. We welcomed more visitors in one day than in the previous two-day events combined, evidence of our community's resilience and vibrancy. We are deeply grateful for this overwhelming support and pledge to continue our unwavering support for the LGBTQIA+ community, recognizing that their strength and spirit make events like Palm Beach Pride so special.

Palm Beach Pride is more than just a festival; it reaffirms the Library's role as a sanctuary for those who seek knowledge and a sense of belonging. Our commitment to serving and uplifting the LGBTQIA+ community is unwavering and we are proud to be seen as a safe haven where everyone can feel welcome and valued. This commitment is reflected in our diverse collection of LGBTQIA+ literature, our inclusive programming and our ongoing efforts to create a welcoming environment for all.

This success is mainly attributed to our dedicated staff, who brought enthusiasm and welcoming smiles to the event, making every attendee feel invited. Their efforts go a long way in reinforcing the bond between the Library and the community we serve. We are deeply grateful for their dedication and pledge to continue supporting them in their efforts.

As we reflect on this year's Pride, it’s clear that our mission extends beyond books and borrowing. We are here to build bridges, support meaningful causes and provide a safe space for all. Our participation in Palm Beach Pride is one of the many ways we strive to embody these values.

Here’s to many more years of partnership, support and celebration with Compass and the incredible people who make Palm Beach Pride a beacon of hope and unity in our community.
