Palm Beach County Library System is seeking friendly, customer-oriented staff. We are a busy, fully automated, southeastern Florida library system serving a population of 865,541 with a Main Library, 16 branches, and Outreach Services with 450 employees. To apply for open positions, you may:

    DESCRIPTION: Plans, supervises and coordinates the activities of libraries in the northern Palm Beach County service area, including the branches of Tequesta, Jupiter, Gardens, Okeechobee, Royal Palm Beach and the Acreage. Formulates/interprets/explains library policies and procedures to the public and staff; resolves sensitive public complaints/relations issues. Reviews/edits/summarizes and submits budget recommendations for north area branches; monitors expenditures. Oversees adult programming; supervises the Programming Librarian and Senior Secretary based at the Gardens branch; writes/reviews performance evaluations; issues counseling forms/disciplinary actions; handles employee complaints/grievances; recommends the hiring, promotion and termination of staff; directs the training and staff development of north area supervisory personnel; provides opportunities for staff continuing education; performs related work as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association; minimum of four (4) years of professional library experience including three (3) years of professional supervisory/administrative work.

    OTHER: Ability to lift 30 pounds preferred. Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.

    PREFERENCE OF EXPERIENCE: Conducting oral presentations/speaking in public; managing a library's major department/branch; training/supervising personnel for four (4) or more years; in a multi-outlet public library system (must specify on application); using automated circulation systems (must specify on application).

    DESCRIPTION: Performs original and complex copy cataloging of library materials in various formats, including online and digital content, using Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) Connexion and Sirsi/Dynix. Provides ongoing authority control and database maintenance; assists with special cataloging projects and in creating/revising local policies, procedures and documentation. Provides bibliographic training of library staff; aids in quality control of outsourced materials and communicates with vendors as necessary to resolve problems/establish policies and procedures.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association (ALA); minimum of one (1) year of professional experience.

    OTHER: Ability to lift 30 pounds preferred. Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.

    PREFERENCE OF EXPERIENCE: Working in a public library; using OCLC Connexion/a local online system (Sirsi/Dynix preferred). Also desirable: Knowledge of cataloging rules and principles/MARC formats/Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC); reading knowledge of Spanish.
