Use a Computer

All of our branches have computers with internet access for you to use for email, or to access the catalog, our electronic databases, and information about your account. Your computer use will be limited based on availability. Most locations also offer free computer classes.

Access: What you view is not private and other people can see it – be considerate. When you send information on the internet it may be possible for others to see it on public computers. Use internet computers at your own risk.

Public adult and youth computers shut down 15 minutes before the branch closes.

Filtering: The internet workstations have filters that block explicit sexual content. Members over age 18, with proof of age, can request the filtering be temporarily removed. Although filters are in place, restriction of a child’s access to the internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.

Free Wi-Fi

The Library offers free wireless internet access (Wi-Fi) at all branch locations for members to use with their own personal laptop computers and other mobile wireless devices.

Wi-Fi service is accessible during normal library hours, Monday through Sunday, and is filtered to comply with federal Children’s Internet Protection Act regulations.

Wi-Fi connection tips and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) sheets are available at all branches. Library staff cannot provide technical assistance in configuring your personal wireless device or in troubleshooting access problems. To print using Wi-Fi, you'll need to follow the instructions below

Printing

Printing and copying are available at all locations. Pricing is as posted on the printer/copier ranging from 25 cents to 50 cents. The machines accept cash only: no bills larger than $5.00.

Wi-Fi Printing from home, your laptop, or your mobile device: You can now print from your PC/laptop, iPad, and smartphone. Submit documents to print from wherever you are. This service works to print from any Internet-connected device to the PBC Library branch closest to you. You can pay for and pick up your documents at the branch that you selected.

Users should be aware of computer viruses and other destructive computer programs, and take steps to avoid being a victim or unwitting distributor of these problems. All wireless access users should have up-to-date virus protection on their laptop computers or wireless devices. The Library will not be responsible for any information that is compromised, or for any damage caused to hardware or software due to electric surges, security issues or consequences caused by viruses or hacking. The Library cannot guarantee that a device will work with the Library’s wireless access points.
