Resources for the Recession at the Library

The Today show recently aired a segment about public libraries helping people find jobs. Locally the Palm Beach County Library System is lending a helping hand to job-seekers and others affected by the economic downturn. There are a number of resources available at the library to help you manage during the recession. The library has a large selection of job-related books, online resources and basic computer and internet classes to help you access these resources.

Programs for Job Seekers – Workforce Wednesdays at the Main Library. Staff will be available to assist with: resume writing, Internet searching for jobs, resume posting and more. Other programs are also available. Check the complete list of programs here.

Computer Classes – A wide variety of computer training is available at our Main Library and in all our branches. We offer free lecture-based learning class and hands-on training. Classes for the computer novice on mousing as well as for the more advanced user are offered in English, Spanish and Creole. Job kiosks –  Job kiosks with touch screens are available at the Main Library, West Boynton Branch, Jupiter Branch, Wellington Branch and Belle Glade Branch.

Not Just for Job-Seekers

The Library also offers many cost-savings for those who have had to tighten their belt. You can check out books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs for free with your library card.

All locations of the Library system have public computers that you can use or bring in your laptop and use our free wi-fi. You can also read magazines and newspapers -- both in print and online.

If you are looking for free quality entertainment check out the variety of programs offered for all ages including story times, crafts, music, movies and more. Activities for children, tweens, teens, families and adults are offered every day of the week. Don’t forget to sign up for the Summer Reading Program with sign-up incentives, weekly prizes and a bonus for completing your reading log.
