Professional artist Donna Burton has maintained
a studio in Boca Raton, Florida for the past 22 years. Through years of practice in the healing arts, Donna mastered her intuitive use of color and pattern with the intention to instigate
personal healing, self-empowerment and awakening the playful spirit. “My art is personal and inspired by my spiritual connection to nature
and the universe.”
I feel this body of work is extremely important for inspiring children of all ages. War, terrorism, school shootings and other catastrophic events have sent fear messages riveting through all our psyches, and especially the vulnerable psyches of our children. It’s time to awaken our inner child and bring forth the playfulness we have buried. Therefore, I intend these masks to instill
joy and laughter in everyone who views them. For me, they represent the diversity of humanity and suggest acceptance of our differences.
Each mask has a unique style and feeling using bright, exhilarating colors, patterns
and a variety of mediums. I have named them after a different culture or tribe for our children’s awareness. These masks are a piece of the many cultures I relate to and a collective consciousness that unifies humanity and has been incubating inside me for many years.
Each mask is created from one thought and shape. The process unfolds as I am guided by an unknown energy, giving me the next step. As I am building forms on the surface, I envision
the potential for beads, feathers, fabrics, textures and other dimensional mediums, always
creating another layer of depth. I feel each mask has evolved from another lifetime and tapped a distinct piece of my soul.
