In our branches, we welcome new residents from all over the world working to make a home right here in Palm Beach County. Navigating their way in a new country, county or city can be daunting. Libraries play an essential role as a source of reliable information in the community.

New Americans Corner

The New Americans Corner is a centralized collection of books, brochures, instructions and more for those residents adjusting to their new community. In addition to information about the naturalization process, the New Americans Corner includes resources needed to successfully pass the citizenship test in English and Spanish, develop English Language skills and understand the rich history and complexity of our American government.

Citizenship Exam Study Materials Online

  • USCIS.GOV/Citizenship
  • The Refugee Center Classroom
    The Refugee Center classroom provide a free online class to prepare students for naturalization at their own pace. Each lesson includes some reading, activities, videos, and vocabulary review with a quiz at the end for students to test their knowledge.
  • Learning Express/Adult Core Skills
    Online learning resource includes a skill building module to become a U.S. citizen which includes practice tests, articles, eBooks, and flashcards.
  • USA Learns
    USA Learns now has a U.S. Citizenship course to help you prepare for your citizenship or naturalization interview. The course includes information on the steps to becoming a U.S. citizen as well as units on N-400 interview practice and U.S. history and government.

English Language Learning

  • English Exchange
    Meet new friends and practice English! Free informal conversational sessions. Participants should have a basic understanding of English. Seating is limited.
  • Transparent Language
    An online system for learning and developing language skills in a fun and engaging way. Includes tools and activities for learning over 80 languages, from Afrikaans to Zulu.
  • USA Learns
    USA Learns has four English courses to help you learn beginning and intermediate English. The courses include videos and interactive learning activities to help you practice and improve your English skills in listening comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, pronunciation, reading, writing, speaking and life skills.

    myUSCIS provides a personalized account to help you navigate the immigration process, from up-to-date information about the application process to tools to help you prepare for the citizenship test
  • Citizenshipworks
    Citizenshipworks was created to help people understand the naturalization process and easily apply for citizenship. Applicants are guided through the application process and connected to free, live, online legal help or to a partner organization.

South Florida Immigration and Citizenship Organizations

  • Florida Department of Children and Families - Refugee Services
    Refugee Services assists newly-arrived eligible clients in obtaining employment, learning English, acquiring job skills and overcoming legal or medical difficulties.
  • Church World Service
    CWS South Florida welcomes, feeds, and clothes newcomers; reunites and strengthens families, and enables resettled immigrants to become self-sufficient and integrated members of US society.
  • Florida Immigration Coalition
    The Florida Immigration Coalition (FLIC) is a DOJ accredited non-profit organization that provides citizenship clinics to assist legal permanent residents with the application process.

Legal Resources

  • Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County
    The Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County provides legal services to immigrants applying for lawful permanent residence or temporary immigration benefits. We focus on assisting noncitizen victims of domestic violence, victims of violent crime and children within the juvenile court dependency system due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. We also prioritize foreign nationals who are disabled or coping with severe illness.
  • Catholic Charities
    A multi-lingual, multi-cultural staff in three locations provides legal services to foreign-born individuals in need of immigration assistance.
  • Church World Service
    The CWS South Florida Legal Department provides legal assistance for applications such as legal permanent residence, employment authorization documents, family petitions, and naturalization. CWS’s attorneys also represent clients in Immigration Court, before the Board of Immigration Appeals, and before the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
  • List of Pro Bono Legal Service Providers in Florida
    The Department of Justice contains information on non-profit organizations and attorneys who have committed to providing at least 50 hours per year of pro bono legal services before the immigration court location.
  • USCIS Regulations and Legal Resources
    The USCIS Legal Resources section provides information on laws, regulations and other authorities, including interpretations and policies that USCIS and other immigration-related components of the Department of Homeland Security follow.
  • List of Currently Disbarred Practitioners
    The Department of Justice provides a list of attorneys who have been disbarred or suspended from practicing law in immigration courts.
  • Scams Against Immigrants
    Immigration scams are fairly common. The Federal Trade Commission provides information on how to avoid a scam and where to find help during the immigration process.
