Proctoring Guidelines

  • Must have a library card from the Palm Beach County Library System.

  • The Main Library and North County Regional, which have computer labs, may proctor online examinations. All PBC Libraries may proctor written examinations.

  • Tests can be received only through the U.S. Postal Service or delivery services such as FedEx or UPS. No emailed or faxed examinations will be accepted.

  • Library staff will make an effort to contact the student when the library receives the exam if contact information is provided in advance or by the institution. However, the student is ultimately responsible for confirming that the exam has been received.

  • Student is required to make an advance appointment at the Reference Desk to schedule a date/time to take the exam. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

  • Library staff cannot provide direct in-room supervision during the exam.

  • Library staff will not explain exam questions or provide any assistance during the exam.

  • Library staff will not sign the proctoring affidavit if test requirements are more than staff is able to do.

  • At the completion of the written exam, the library will return the exam directly to the issuing institution through the U.S. Postal Service at the next regularly scheduled pickup from the library. In certain instances, the library may be able to return the exam by fax if to a toll free or local number, or may use FedEx/UPS if there is regular service to that library.

  • The student or institution is responsible for all postage costs. The appropriate amount of postage (stamps) must be supplied at the completion of the exam. The exam will be held at the library until postage or pre-paid FedEx/UPS is provided.

  • For questions, or to make proctoring arrangements, please contact the library’s Reference Desk.
