Guidelines Governing the Use of the Library

In order to ensure a congenial and safe environment for its patrons, which is conducive to reading and study, the Palm Beach County Library System prohibits the following:

• Fighting or loud, abusive, or threatening language

• Firearms, alcohol, or illicit substances

• Leaving young children unattended

• Loitering, sleeping, or bathing

• Abuse or vandalism of library materials, equipment, or property

• Selling or soliciting

• Harassing of others or creating any disturbance that interferes with the normal operation of the Library

• Smoking in library facilities

• Food and beverages in non-designated areas, except for water in covered containers, and covered beverages and dry food consumed by very young children

• Bodily hygiene that is so offensive that it interferes with another person’s use of the Library

• Inappropriate use of library computers, such as damaging or altering or tampering with equipment or software, downloading or installing any program on a hard drive, disrupting or interfering with other computers or network users, services, or equipment

• Illegal activity of any sort
