Presidents and Their First Ladies, Dramatically Speaking:
George & Martha Washington

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library

Online registration begins
Mon, Dec 12 at 9 am

by Donna Marie Smith, Systemwide Adult Programming Coordinator

Did a marriage of convenience lead to our "first" First couple? If true love wasn't the spark of the marriage, it certainly grew as the years passed, as Martha shared George’s struggles during the revolution and the presidency. During the Revolutionary War, Washington survived many defeats to finally emerge victorious after eight years of hardship. Now beloved as “Father of the Country, Washington was at the time a reluctant hero – a leader of a revolution who did not want power for himself and who willingly left the presidency after two terms.

The story of the Washingtons is told in vivid detail by the veteran acting and writing team of husband and wife William and Sue Wills. A “must see” event of the Library System’s winter programming schedule, this talented couple has delighted audiences from around the country for 16 years. Seating for this free, one-hour program is limited. Preregister at the location of your choice in person, by phone, or by visiting to register online beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, December 12. Funding for this special event is provided by the Friends of the Library. (60 min.)
