Success starts here for Business Research

Success Starts Here for Business ResearchSmall businesses create most of the nation’s new jobs, employ about half of the nation’s private sector work force, and provide half of the nation’s non-farm, private real gross domestic product (GDP), as well as a significant share of innovations.

For library patrons researching businesses (small or large) to identify competitors, target customers, or search for job opportunities, several library databases can prove very helpful.

ReferenceUSA provides information on over 14 million businesses (and 89 million residences) to help users search for jobs by job skills, location, and industry. Entrepreneurs and business owners may search for business opportunities, and research executives and companies nationwide.  ReferenceUSA serves as a useful tool for tracking down addresses and phone numbers, finding news articles on companies, and an alternative to the yellow pages for locating out-of-town companies.

The D&B® Million Dollar Database provides a valuable source of information on both private and public companies and their executives. This database combines complete coverage on 34 million businesses in the U.S. and Canada with business profiles on firms in over 200 countries worldwide. Create targeted mailing lists and reports which include executive contact names, industry information, and corporate family trees.

Available in the library and from your home computer with a library card or an e-card, our electronic resources can help in every step of your business research. E-cards, which are available online, can be converted to a regular library card at any of our branches. The link to our e-resources is www.pbclibrary.org/databases/

Quick Byte: Scheduling with Doodle

DoddleSetting up a meeting for a group can be a nightmare. You email participants with a proposed date and time and wait for the responses of why that doesn’t work for one person and the alternative dates and times. There is an easier way. There is no registration and it’s free to use!

Doodle allows you to create a poll with multiple dates and times and send an email invitation to each participant. The invitees can then check off the dates and times they are available. You get an email as each invitee responds.

Doodle also allows you to connect to your Google Calendar, iCal, or Outlook calendar.
