Internet Danger Month

As a result of the pandemic, we are relying more and more on technology to keep us connected with family, friends and even our workplace. This makes it more important than ever to make sure we are using the internet safely. This means knowing what the risks are and ways to avoid them. Here are some of the most important things to keep in mind when surfing the net.
  • Don’t share your personal information.
  • Use strong passwords and never share your password.
  • Beware of strangers.
  • Watch out for phishing and scams.
  • Be careful what you post.
  • Only shop from secure sites.
  • Use privacy settings.
  • Practice safe browsing.
  • Make sure your internet connection is secure.
  • Backup data regularly.

Using the Tutor.com Adult Center

Learn how to navigate the complete Learning Suite.

Tutor.com is not just for students. It is for adults as well. You can get expert help with résumé writing, cover letter assistance, interview prep, online applications, job searches and access to career resources.

To get started visit the Tutor.com Adult Center online on our website at pbclibrary.org. Click on the Research icon on the upper right and search for Tutor.com.

Create an account so that you can save your work. Accounts are FREE, anonymous and optional. You can connect with a tutor without an account - but creating an account will unlock extra features! You can get access to the mobile app for iPhone, be able to reconnect with a favorite tutor; have the ability to store your projects and review or share your saved sessions.

Getting help is easy! Just choose the topic and subject you need help with, then select Adult from the grade level drop-down menu. Enter your question and click Connect.

You can work with your tutor in real-time or use our self-study resources! Get expert advice and interview prep. You can also use our Drop-Off Review service to upload your resume, writing assignment or math question and get detailed feedback and explanations within 24 hours. Assess your knowledge level and practice for upcoming tests in any of hundreds of different areas. Take the quiz and review your results, then retrieve helpful resources or connect with a tutor to discuss any missed questions.

Need help outside of live tutoring hours? Use the Review past sessions, saved files and more. Click on the My Account link at the top of your Tutor.com page to review your work, retrieve a saved file, pick up your Drop-Off Review results, or see a list of tutors that you’ve marked as “favorites.”

Celebrate Haitian Heritage Month

The Palm Beach County Library System is proud to honor Haitian culture, history and language during Haitian Heritage Month in May, a month that includes the important holiday of Haitian Flag Day on May 18. This year, we invite you to enjoy a wide variety of online events accessible through Zoom. Register and join us for the live events, or view the recordings on our digital activities page. These events are sponsored by the Friends of the Palm Beach County Library System.

Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental health is something that everyone should care about. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the mental health of people of all ages. Now, more than ever, it is critical to reduce the stigma around mental health struggles, because that stigma often prevents individuals from seeking help. The Library is offering virtual activities to help you cope during this stressful time.
