Get Money Smart

The Palm Beach County Library System will be participating in the national public awareness campaign, Money Smart Month in April, by offering classes and activities throughout the county.

Money Smart Month activities are for everyone: from job seekers to small business owners to thrifty consumers. Events cover a variety of topics to help residents improve their credit score, fight against senior scams, prevent identity theft, write a grant, read a financial statement, and much more. For a complete listing of activities, visit our website.

Money Smart Month promotes financial education across all age groups. Launched in 2002 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the program is now active in more than 45 states through national partnerships with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Cooperative Extension and the American Library Association.

To learn more about personal finance, careers, consumer safety, grant-seeking, thrifty lifestyle tips and more, join us at one of our Money Smart events this month!

Book + Art Discussion

“Another Brooklyn,” by Jacqueline Woodson and
“Naomi Looking Forward #2,” by Mickalene Thomas

Sat, Apr 14, 2:00 pm
Norton Museum of Art
1451 S Olive Avenue,
West Palm Beach, FL 33401

Jacqueline Woodson’s 2016 novel tells the story of growing up as a black woman in the 1970s. Discuss Woodson’s book and its relationship to Thomas’ painting, both of which offer complex visions about the black female experience in America.

Yom Hashoah

Holocaust Days of Remembrance

Marking the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising during the Second World War, Holocaust Remembrance Day, or Yom Hashoah in Hebrew, this year is officially commemorated on Thu, Apr 12.

Once again the Palm Beach County Library System is proud to join the nation in commemorating Yom Hashoah with a special event series.

Audiobook titles are available as abridged (shortened version of the original title) and unabridged (full). Most titles in the collection are unabridged.

Quickbyte: EveryDollar

For many, money is a huge source of stress. That makes planning and tracking your budget about as fun as an overdue dental procedure. Could one app make the whole process stress-free? Budgeting, not dentist stuff. Sorry.

EveryDollar won't make more funds magically appear in your account, but it could make what's there last longer. Once you add your monthly income, you'll be guided through planning your expenses, then you can start adding your transactions to track your spending. EveryDollar will help you sort all your spending into meaningful categories so you can be more mindful of your spending habits and see where your money is going at a glance.

EveryDollar is a well designed app with a clean, easy-to-use interface that feels lighter and friendlier than competitors like Mint. Best of all, EveryDollar is free for your iOS and Android devices. Syncing with your bank accounts, however, requires paying an annual subscription fee.
