Money Smart Month

The Palm Beach County Library System will be participating in the national public awareness campaign, Money Smart Month in April, by offering classes and programs throughout the county.

Money Smart Month programs are for everyone: from job seekers to small business owners to thrifty consumers. Events cover a variety of topics to help Palm Beach County residents improve their credit score, fight against senior scams, prevent identity theft, write a grant, read a financial statement, and much more.

Money Smart Month promotes financial education across all age groups. Launched in 2002 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the program is now active in more than 45 states through national partnerships with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) Cooperative Extension and the American Library Association.

"We are excited to offer such a wide variety of tools and educational opportunities to help the Palm Beach County’s economy grow!" said Susan Berger, award-winning business librarian at the Main Library.

To learn more about personal finance, careers, consumer safety, grant-seeking, thrifty lifestyle tips and more, join us at one of our Money Smart events this month!

Quickbyte: CamScanner

Have you ever needed to scan something but didn’t have access to a scanner? Enter CamScanner, a free app useful for scanning images and creating pdf documents from your scans. CamScanner stands out from similar apps due to its simplicity and many features. You’ll be able to take a photo of a document or other text with your phone, make multiple adjustments, and export to a variety of places.

To use CamScanner, just point your device at the document or text and tap the camera icon. The image will focus, and once captured, will be cropped automatically (though it can be cropped manually). You can adjust the lighting and enhance the color of an image, and if you’re not happy with the results, just revert to the original and start over. CamScanner handles documents and images with multiple pages; after scanning, it offers the options of adding or deleting pages as well as reordering pages within the document.

Once you have scans, there is a system for tagging your files to keep them organized, and the files can be saved as searchable pdf documents. They can also be shared by email and on social media, added to Dropbox, Google Drive, and a variety of other platforms, and you can even invite others to view so that they can comment.

If you’ve been looking for an app that offers high quality, professional looking scans, take a look at CamScanner. It’s available for free for both iOs and Android devices; a premium version is also available.
