We're Going Back to School.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
- Nelson Mandela

It’s time for our kids to load up their backpacks with school supplies, put on their new clothes, and head back to school. It can be a hard transition going from the freedom of summer back to the responsibility of being a full-time student.

However, there are programs throughout the county to help your child say farewell to summer and prepare for the coming school year. Don't miss these great programs as we head back to school.

Homework Headache Relief is Just a Click Away.

Do you ever wish you had your own tutor to consult when you come up against a particularly puzzling math problem or need help with grammar in a paragraph you are writing for English class? Your wish has been granted! Every day, students in Palm Beach County are connecting to one of the expert tutors and teachers online at Live Homework Help.

How do they do this? They go to the PBCLS website, from home or the library, and click on the Live Homework Help link on the homepage, kids page or teen page that takes them directly to the tutoring service. They receive the one-to-one help they need to perform better in school and find the information they need to do their homework in English, social studies, math and science. Many of the tutors are teachers, professors, graduate students and engineers. The Live Homework Help service ( conducts a thorough background check before hiring the tutors and checks up on them to make sure they are helping students to understand their homework – not doing it for them. Students are invited to make comments on their tutoring sessions and Palm Beach County students have responded enthusiastically to the service.

Quick Byte: White Noise Lite

Reading in tranquility can be very gratifying with just the right ambient noise. This month's app has made that peaceful experience possible with just a click of a button.

White Noise Lite is an app that "features ambient sounds of the environment that will help you relax during the day and sleep great at night." Soothing and familiar sounds play on a loop and help you block out distracting sounds. What are the benefits? Ambient noise slows and regulates your brain waves, offering the opportunity for deep sleep and better focus during waking hours. In addition, it relaxes and reduces stress, sooths headaches, and in general, provides a more tranquil environment.

The White Noise Lite download includes ten sounds: airplane travel (without the chattering of other passengers), waves crashing on a beach, chimes, crickets chirping, train riding, white noise, pouring rain, a grandfather clock, an oscillating fan and a thunderstorm. Not enough choices? You have the option of adding more free sounds from that include playground, passing train, and yes, even the World Cup! You can also mix sounds together to create your own individual backgrounds.

The app also provides a digital clock, an alarm system that fades in and out so you’re not startled out of your sleep, and advanced functions to adjust pitch, balance and more.

White Noise Lite is free and available for download via iTunes, Amazon Market and Google Play.
